Interestingly, Aditya Sarpotdar's critically acclaimed film 'Unaad' to 'Aatmapamphlet' (Auto-bio Pamphlet) by Ashish Bende, ' Ved ' by , 'Dhekun' (Bedbug) by Kshitij Joshi, 'Vaalvi' by Paresh Mokashi and others has been selected in key categories.
Today, the filmmakers Riteish Deshmukh, Kedar Shinde, Ashish Bende, Varun Narvekar Sachin Chatte and Sujay Dahake attended the panel discussion with media for Marathi cinema.
During the discussion about the box-office collection of Marathi films, Riteish Deshmukh shared, " When we are trying to attract the audience, we have to make sure that creatively we are able to appeal to various demographics. Be it youth or women. One thing is for sure. In Maharashtra, I feel that the main viewing audience is the middle-class women. That is the main. I will tell you one more thing. I have closely monitored women's figures."
"When ' Lai Bhari ' came in 2014, the opening was 3.3 crore on Friday. Which was a huge figure. It was the highest figure of that time. When the weight was released, it opened very well. It was 2.0 crore on Friday. Correct? Which is a big opening for the year. After that, for the next 10 days, Friday was the lowest figure. And for women, probably, for the next 20 days, Friday was the lowest figure. Not even a single Hindi film, which is a big opening, tells me that Friday is going to be the lowest figure for the next 10 days. It doesn't happen like that." Riteish added.
Riteish further explained, "As it was the subject of 'Kantara', a Kannada film came here, and everyone watched it. Why did they watch it? Because they wanted to. It was not a random film that they watched it because it was 'Kantara'. Any film that is going on in Hindi, in the South, it is a blockbuster film in that language. It is the biggest film in that language. That is why they watched it. If you take 'Bhaubali 2' or 'RRR', they were sure that in their home ground, it will hit a century. That is why they promoted it abroad. But do we have that much faith in our films? We have to build our homes first. For that, we have to figure out newer ways, newer platforms, how to reach more and more people, and which content we should take."
"As Kedarji said, it is very apt that the audience is always right. This is what I am saying. The audience is always right. It is never wrong. Because they watch what they like." Riteish concluded.
