Kareena Kapoor’s The Buckingham Murders To Open MAMI 2023, Projects By Anurag Kashyap, Vikramaditya Motwane, Tahira Kashyap To Also Premiere

The detective film The Buckingham Murders, directed by Hansal Mehta will be the opening film at the upcoming Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival. Other projects by directors Anurag Kashyap, Tahira Kashyap Khurrana, Devashish Makhija, Atul Sabharwal and Vikramaditya Motwane will be having their premieres at the Mumbai festival as well. The Buckingham Murders will open the latest edition of the Mumbai Film Festival on October 27. Not only that, other new projects including Anurag Kashyap’s Kennedy, Tahira Kashyap Khurrana’ Sharmajee Ki Beti, Devashish Makhija’s Joram, Atul Sabharwal’s Berlin and Vikramaditya Motwane’s Indi(r)a will also be shown for the first time in India. Here’s what the films are about.

The announcement was made by the festival on X. The caption stated, “We are thrilled to announce The Buckingham Murders as the opening film at Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival 2023. The international premiere of Hansal Mehta’s atmospheric thriller is an exploration of grief and our longing for closure.”

Other big-name projects by Anurag Kashyap, Vikramaditya Motwane to also premiere

Five other big productions are also set to be showcased at the Mumbai Film Festival this year. Devashish Makhija’s Joram will have its India premiere at the festival. The emotional drama stars Manoj Bajpayee, Tannishtha Chatterjee and Smita Tambe. After its Cannes premiere earlier this year, Anurag Kashyap’s Kennedy with Rahul Bhat and Sunny Leone is finally heading home.

Meanwhile, Tahira Kashyap Khurrana’s debut feature Sharmajee Ki Beti with Sakshi Tanwar, Divya Dutta and Saiyami Kher is a slice-of-life comedy-drama. She made her directorial debut with the short film Toffee which played at the Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival in 2017.

Atul Sabharwal’s Berlin, starring Ishwak Singh, Aparshakti Khurrana and Kabir Bedi, will have its Indian premiere in Mumbai. The film had its world premiere at the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles on October 15. Finally, MAMI board member Vikramaditya Motwane docu-series Indi(r)a on the Emergency will also be shown at the film festival.

The Mumbai Film Festival 2023 will be held from October 27 to November 5.
