The Buckingham Murders will open the latest edition of the Mumbai Film Festival on October 27. Not only that, other new projects including Anurag Kashyap’s Kennedy, Tahira Kashyap Khurrana’ Sharmajee Ki Beti, Devashish Makhija’s Joram, Atul Sabharwal’s Berlin and Vikramaditya Motwane’s Indi(r)a will also be shown for the first time in India. The announcement was made by the festival on X. The caption stated, “We are thrilled to announce The Buckingham Murders as the opening film at Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival 2023. The international premiere of Hansal Mehta’s atmospheric thriller is an exploration of grief and our longing for closure.”
Meanwhile, Tahira Kashyap Khurrana’s debut feature Sharmajee Ki Beti with Sakshi Tanwar, Divya Dutta and Saiyami Kher is a slice-of-life comedy-drama. She made her directorial debut with the short film Toffee which played at the Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival in 2017.
Atul Sabharwal’s Berlin, starring Ishwak Singh, Aparshakti Khurrana and Kabir Bedi, will have its Indian premiere in Mumbai. The film had its world premiere at the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles on October 15. Finally, MAMI board member Vikramaditya Motwane docu-series Indi(r)a on the Emergency will also be shown at the film festival.
The Mumbai Film Festival 2023 will be held from October 27 to November 5.
